Official Labour NEC results released, but no record of ballot papers


London, 7 July

The Labour Party today published the official results of the bi-annual NEC Constituency section elections at

Attempts continue to secure official disclosure of how many ballot papers were issued - another indicator of Labour Party membership.  Earlier today the results were published unofficially with a guide to turnout.

"The Labour NEC results are just out!

Six to be elected in the Constituency Labour Parties' section, voting system is multi-member first-past-the-post, with each voter getting six votes. An asterisk denotes a sitting member (one of these, Tony Robinson, did not restand).

The Grassroots Alliance candidates (i.e. the left slate) were Ann Black, Mark Seddon, Christine Shawcroft, Pete Willsman, Mohammed Azam and Irene Graham.

Turnout was low at around 18 per cent."

Last week the NEC was advised that total membership had stabilised at around 208,000, just under 50% lower than when Tony Blair was appointed Prime Minister in 1997.
