| MEMBERSHIP How many members has Labour really got? Click here for an unofficial guide for CLP membership secretaries. How many are willing to campaign? STLP has put this issue at the forefront of its 2004 campaigning. This is a major challenge to New Labour thinking and the Party leadership. See the Guardian newspaper's front page report of 12 April 2004 here Kevin Maguire's report does not refer to the positive facets of the STLP campaign which are set out in our latest leaflet here But by listing all main party membership figures, it put the issues into a cross party context. This is useful for STLP as it enables us to make the link to the debate about state funding of political parties here All Labour MPs have been invited to join STLP's campaign for a 3rd term with a growing, active membership in a letter for Easter recess reading enclosing a copy of the leaflet and encouragement to discuss affiliation with their constituency labour party. Details here This strategy has been discussed with Billy Hayes, general secretary of the Communications Workers Union. His initial thoughts can be seen on his website entry for 2 April. Earlier initiatives are detailed under the heading Membership Puzzle here |
