Chair Peter Kenyon - politically active since a sit-in at Hull University in 1968. Joined the Labour Party in 1978 in Brownswood Ward, Hackney North and Stoke Newington CLP. Held positions of Branch chair, vice-chair, agent. Councillor LB Hackney 1994-2002. Held positions as Chief Whip and Chair Agency and Direct Services committee. Currently BLP vice-chair, CLP treasurer and GC and LGC delegate. Background in political and financial journalism mainly with Reuters. Former NHS Trust chair. Committed democratic socialist. Recently branded New Labour - 25 years ago; that was then, not now!. Seen growth in membership and activism shrivel into anger and frustration. Vice-Chair Trevor Fisher - Age 57 member of the Labour Party since 1975, active in Birmingham Ladywood and Birmingham District Labour Parties, for last twenty years resident in Stafford and member of Stafford Labour Party where he is currently Secretary. Former Secretary of the Staffordshire County Labour Party, founder member and Honorary Secretary of the Labour Reform Group, Founder member and interim Chair of the Save the Labour Party Group from July 2003 to January 2004. Major interest is in reviving constituency party structures, increasing membership involvement and campaigning for an elected chair of the Labour Party. Secretary Gaye Johnston (Dr) - has been a member of the Labour Party all her adult life. She was a founder member of Save the Labour Party and Acting Secretary during its first year. She was a Parliamentary candidate in marginal seats in Cleveland and Swindon. Gaye was also a Labour Councillor in Darlington, Vice-Chair of Housing and a school governor in Sedgefield Constituency! She was CLP Political Education Officer (Hyndburn) but resigned during the 2001 general election campaign because many pre-election policies had not been through Party democratic processes. Gaye is a university teacher who runs a Master’s Programme in Health and Social Services Management at Lancaster. Treasurer Kath Fry - Member of the Labour Party since 1974 and, at one time or another, held most positions at branch, constituency and Local Government Committee level, as well as twice being Parliamentary agent for Tony Lloyd MP. Councillor on Manchester City Council since 1988 and served as Chair of the Personnel Committee, Education Committee and the Finance Scrutiny Committee. Currently a Group Whip and part-time Maths teacher. |
