Campaign letter to Labour MPs
2 April 2004

Dear «Name»

A 3rd term – with more active members

We are writing to ask for your support for our campaign to win a 3rd term with more, active Labour Party members. You will know from your local constituency officers how many members there are under Rule in your CLP, i.e. those who are either fully paid up or only in arrears for less than six months. You will also know from your agent how many members you can count on for active support at the next election.

As a newly formed grassroots organisation within the Labour Party we are committed to reverse recent trends in both membership and activism. We have much to be proud of Labour in government. We are encouraging active participation in the 21st century party debate. The outcome of the June elections will highlight the extent of the challenge facing Labour seeking a 3rd term. Ours is a short-life campaign to highlight what steps the Labour Party needs to take as an organisation to be a credible 21st century mainstream democratic socialist party.

We hope that you share our ambition for the Labour Party and will support our work by joining us and encouraging your CLP to affiliate. If you receive correspondence from members expressing concern about the future of the Labour Party, why not send them one of our leaflets to let them know that other ordinary members are organising?

Enclosed is a copy of our latest flyer. Please let us know if you require additional copies.
Further details of our work can be seen on our website:

Yours comradely,
